Tech Headache of the Week #2

by admin on Dec.05, 2010, under Headache of the Week

This Tech Headache of the Week is a CSS problem. I’ve moved back to Chrome from Safari, and I’m trying to find an alternative to Safari’s Top Sites for a homepage. I have made some home pages in Flash, however they were’t the easiest to update. I liked Safari’s Top Sites because they looked good and they were easy to update. Read on after the jump.

Tech Headache of the Week 1#

by admin on Dec.01, 2010, under Headache of the Week

I’ll be starting something new on Souris Games. “Tech Headache of the Week” is any annoyance I find during the week that I can rant about on here. Without further ado, let’s start.

Today I was helping some high school kids with a video project they had. They were told to use iMovie ’09 to edit it. I had taken some tutorials on Lynda.com on iMovie but had never had any practice with it, as I am a Windows user.

**NEW GAME** Target Ball

by admin on Nov.26, 2010, under Games

Here’s a new game that is quite simple. The only control is the space bar. The ball bounces around the screen and you have to press the space bar when the ball is over one of the point blocks. Depending on which block it’s on top of you’ll get a certain amount of points. You have to get exactly 100 points.

50 Most Important Handheld Devices of all time

by admin on Nov.23, 2010, under Things on the Web

This is an absolute must-read for everyone. You don’t need to necessarily read every single description of each device, but at least read the titles and release dates. The captions can be funny too.

Apple Sale on Friday

by admin on Nov.23, 2010, under Things on the Web

Today at around 4:20 I got an e-mail from Apple saying that there’s a sale on Friday. Something I didn’t notice is in the announcement it reads:

Come back to the Apple Online Store the day after Thanksgiving for a special one-day-only holiday shopping event. You’ll find dozens of great iPad, iPod and Mac gifts for everyone on your list. Mark your calendars now. And until then, get started by browsing the Apple Online Store for great ideas.

The order of the products might give some indication as to what the sale will affect the most. “iPad, iPod, Mac”. I’m pretty happy with that because I’m actually quite interested in the iPad and if it were 100$ cheaper that would be nice.

However, it’s Apple. It could be something ridiculous like a free Beatles song with every purchase. We’ll find out on Friday.

Question: What are you most interested in from Apple? The iPad, iPod, iPhone, or Mac?

**NEW GAME** Faces

by admin on Nov.22, 2010, under Games

This new game is almost an experiment instead of a game, but I can imagine that some of you would play it for a while. Make the larger face copy the small face.

The instructions are after the jump.

Copy some faces!

Touch Screen Computers

by admin on Nov.09, 2010, under Commentary

PCMag has an article on touch screen computers which I think says something quite good. I wanted to comment on it, however I would rather not create an account, so I thought I’d say it here.
I have two opinions.
First: If you’re going to use it for any length of time, the touch surface has to be horizontal. Smart Boards are as much as I can take.
Second: If you’re going to use a touch screen, don’t have a mouse and keyboard OS. That’s why operating systems like iOS and Android work so well. Can you imagine using iOS with a mouse and keyboard? It would be terrible. Its also why I think HP screwed up with the Slate and having Windows 7 on it.
So I would say to some company make a computer that can orient its screen from a horizontal surface to a vertical surface. Dual boot OSes so that when you have to use a keyboard and mouse you aren’t stuck on Android doing it.

Question: What’s your opinion on touch screen computers? Do they work?

XNA and C#

by admin on Nov.08, 2010, under Commentary

Recently I’ve abandoned Flash a bit and done C# and XNA development. For those who don’t know, XNA is the framework that you write Xbox 360, Zune, and Windows games in. C# is the language you code with. Continue reading after the jump.

**NEW EXPERIMENT** Particle Spray

by admin on Nov.06, 2010, under Experiments

I”ve always loved particle effects. I think the things that you can achieve with them are really cool, and you don’t need all that much complex code. Here’s one I did for fun:

**NEW EXPERIMENT** Twirling Bricks

by admin on Nov.04, 2010, under Experiments

A little experiment I did when I had some time to kill. This is rotating each of the bricks on all of the rotation axes. The rotation amount is depending on the difference between one brick’s value and the same value of the brick underneath it.
